What is DAHLIA?
DAHLIA is San Francisco's official housing portal, run by the Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development. Most below-market rentals and homes for sale are listed there, and you apply through it. Applying is free.
How are the apartments and homes awarded?
Most are awarded by lottery. Everyone who applies by the deadline gets a random lottery number, so applying early does not help. Some listings are first come, first served, and a few are waitlists. Each listing says which one it is.
What do the income ranges mean?
Below-market units are set aside for households under a share of the area median income (AMI). The ranges here are monthly household income, as the portal lists them. Larger households have higher limits, so check the listing for your household size.
Do I need Section 8 to apply?
No. These listings are separate from Section 8 and public housing. You can apply while you wait for a voucher.
